What Is AVIRT Training?
AVIRT — Active Violent Immediate Response Training — is an evidence-based program developed by HSI (Health & Safety Institute) that teaches individuals and organizations how to recognize, respond to, and survive an active violence incident.
Unlike passive “lockdown and wait” approaches, AVIRT is grounded in the reality that in most incidents, your team will need to make critical decisions before law enforcement arrives. The training covers threat recognition, escape and evasion, barricading, and — when necessary — how to respond to protect yourself and others.
AVIRT also integrates bleeding control response, recognizing that severe injuries — whether from an active violence incident or any other emergency — require immediate action. Every second counts.
